Anti Frizz Oils To Help You Tame Your Mane

How do we control frizz without using synthetics in our hair? I am a firm believer in the power of plants, so I’m going to give you some amazing all-natural Anti Frizz Oils options you can use to reduce frizz.

To be honest, I have a love-hate relationship with frizz and I’m not sure what I would have done without Anti Frizz Oils. There are some days when I am desperate for the volume and I know that frizz will be the inevitable outcome, so I cheerfully accept all the frizz. Then there are days when I want more defined curls, so having frizz just doesn’t work for me. Let’s face it, for most of us, a little frizz is inevitable but there are a few tricks and products to use to help you avoid as much frizz as possible.

Let’s start by discussing what frizz is and how Anti Frizz Oils can help. When the cuticle layers of our hairs are raised, it makes it easy for moisture to pass through. When moisture passes into our cuticle layer, it causes swelling in the strands. This swelling is called frizz. For those of us with curly hair, we tend to have more frizz than those with straight hair. This is because the raised cuticle layers in our hair allow for moisture to escape, leaving dry, frizzy hair. Dry and frizzy hair can happen to anyone with any hair type for various reasons.

Some reasons for dry frizzy hair include:

  • Not drinking enough water. Water is essential to our bodies, and a lack of water intake will show immediately within our skin hair and overall energy. It is recommended that we drink half of our body weight in ounces of water daily.
  • You are not deep conditioning your hair regularly. I use the word ‘regularly’ loosely because we all have different hair porosity types. Each porosity type requires a different amount of deep conditioning with different products. You can save yourself a lot of hair-aches by knowing your porosity type. If you don’t know your type, take our quick and easy quiz to find out.
  • Your shampoo is too drying for your hair or you are shampooing too often. Shampoos are great for cleansing dirt and product build-up out of our hair, but they also strip your hair of the oils it naturally produces through the scalp. So if you are shampooing every day, you are more prone to dry hair.
  • Your hair is over-processed with chemicals or your hair is heat damaged. Both of these cause damage to your hair cuticle enabling it to hold moisture.

So how do we control frizz without using synthetics in our hair? I am a firm believer in the power of plants, so I’m going to give you some amazing all-natural options you can use to reduce frizz.

Anti Frizz Oils

  • Argan Oil: this is a lightweight oil that does a great job at sealing the hair cuticle and protects your hair from humidity which can cause frizz. This is my personally recommended Anti Frizz Oil.
  • Coconut Oil: this is a lightweight to medium weight oil that adds shine and gloss to hair while protecting the hair cuticle from swelling-helping to reduce frizz.
  • Avocado Oil: this is one of my ABSOLUTE favourite oils! This oil is super high in saturated fat and can penetrate the hair shaft and provide moisture to your hair.
  • Olive Oil: though this oil can sometimes be too heavy for most hair types, it contains many nutrients that help to retain moisture. Like avocado oil, its molecular structure is small enough to penetrate the hair shaft to provide lots of needed moisture to our hair.
  • Jojoba Oil: is another one of my favourite oils to use when trying to combat frizz. Jojoba oil mimics the natural sebum that our skin produces on our scalp. It gives your hair a polished frizz-free look.

To use any of these oils, all you need to do is pump 3-4 drops of the oil (more can be used depending on hair length and thickness) into your hands. Rub your hands together to make sure the oil is evenly distributed. Starting from your tips, smooth your hands throughout your hair. As you work your way up your head, be sure to avoid your roots unless there is a lot of frizz. Because our scalps produce oil, we don’t want to weigh down our roots with more oil.
